The word umrah means “to go out” or “to depart”, and it refers to the pilgrimage that Muslims make to Makkah (Mecca) — which is known as the holy city of Islam — during their lifetime.

The minimum age for Umrah is five years old but some countries have set a higher age limit like 10 years old or even 15 years old in some cases. In these countries, you will have to obtain a letter from your child’s doctor stating that he/she is physically fit enough to travel without any risk involved. Your child have no physical or mental disability that interferes with their ability to perform this act of worship.

Children below five years old may not be allowed for Umrah because these children may not be able to endure long journeys without any support from their parents or guardians.

You may bring your baby to perform Umrah with you, but the baby should only be a newborn and must not be older than six months.

The following are the rules regarding babies:

– The baby must not be more than 6 months old at the time of performing Umrah.- The baby must not be more than 1 year old when returning back home.
